Mr. J. Dewey Church, 88, resident of High Point, died April 14th, 2014 at Hospice Home at High Point. Mr. Church was born January 27th, 1926 in Guilford County, a son to the late Roy Dewey and Lola Margaret Bales Church. A resident of this area all his life, he retired after 25 years from Carolina Freight Carriers and was a member of Oak View Baptist Church. He also was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the U.S.S. Dutchess in the Pacific Theatre. In 1951 he married the former Rebecca (Becky) Isenhour who survives of the residence. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Roy Edison Church in 2008 and a brother, Walter Allen Church in 1993. Also surviving is a daughter, Janet Hill and husband Frank of Kernersville; a son, David Church and wife Lynn of Greensboro; a sister, Margaret Ann Church of Greensboro; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Haynes Church of Greensboro; nine grandchildren, Jonathan Hill and wife Paulina of Boston, MA, Jennifer Hill of Charlotte, Rebecca Fowler and husband Brian of Raleigh, Anna Church of Greensboro, Nathan Church of Greensboro, Luke Church and wife Kristen of High Point, Hunter Church and wife Rachel of Durham, Cassidy Church of Greensboro and Zak Church of Greensboro; three great grandchildren, Jonah Hill, Sydney Nicole Church and Liam Church; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Oak View Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. Don Duncan officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Home at High Point, 1803 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC 27262.
