Don Wray Morris of Jamestown and High Point, North Carolina, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, died peacefully Sunday, November 10, 2013, after suffering a stroke.
Don was born February 15, 1931 to Arthur Clyde and Connie Snyder Morris. On May 28, 1955, he married Betty Jean Smith. Don was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed as a sales representative for Agfa until his retirement in 1995. After his retirement, Don & Betty divided their time between their Jamestown home and their second home in Myrtle Beach.
Don and Betty have been longtime members of First United Methodist Church in High Point, where they were both active in Hays Bible Class, Parson’s Table, and Mobile Meals. He was a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews and always welcomed his children’s friends. Don coached youth basketball and baseball in Jamestown and was an active supporter in all of his children’s activities.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Burris; his brothers Bob, Glenn, and Bill Morris; a nephew, Glenn (Pug) Morris, and his nieces Barbara and Catherine Morris.
Don is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughter, Donna Morris Ragan and husband, John; his sons, Rick Morris, Terry Morris and wife Sarah; two grandsons, Bryan Ragan and Carson Morris; three granddaughters, Haley Morris, Kallie Ragan and Olivia Morris; one brother, Wayne (Frip) Morris, and a large extended family.
A Celebration of Life and Visitation will be at Cumby Family Funeral Home, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. There will be a private internment service on Friday at Guilford Memorial Park.
The family is requesting memorials in lieu of flowers. Charities that Don’s family support include the First United Methodist Church, 512 N. Main St. High Point, NC 27260, the Friends of the High Point Public Library, P.O. Box 2530 High Point, NC 27261 and the American Stroke Association, P.O. Box 5216 Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
