Mr. Jerry Lytle Steppe

                 Mr. Jerry Lytle Steppe, 72, resident of High Point, died September 14th, 2013 at Hospice Home at High Point.
Mr. Steppe was born June 26th, 1941 in McDowell County, a son to the late Guy and Anna Howell Steppe.  A resident of this area most of his life, he was a member of Oak View Baptist Church and had worked at Huggins Tire Sales.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and later was a pilot, flying for Piedmont Airlines and for several NASCAR racers through his time at Huggins.  He loved racing and his racing family.  In 1976 he married the former Gail Sauls who survives of the residence.
Also surviving is his sister, Martha Tate and husband Howard of Chapel Hill; his brother-in-laws, Donald Sauls (Renee) of Burlington and Ronald Crockarell (Darlene) of Clarksville, TN; and his two nephews, Michael Tate (Janna) of Charlotte and John Tate of Chapel Hill.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. Don Duncan officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.  Memorials may be directed to Oak View Baptist Church, 810 Oakview Rd. High Point, NC 27265.
