Rev. Jimmy D. Hinson, D.D., 79, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Hospice Home at High Point. He was the loving husband of Margaret (Collins) Hinson to whom he was married for 57 years.
Rev. Hinson was born on January 3, 1935 in High Point, NC a son of Ollie (McMahan) Hinson of High Point, NC and the late Ernest Daniel Hinson. On October 12, 1945 he made his decision to become a Christian and two weeks later became baptized at Pilot View Baptist Church. He was a 1953 Graduate of Trinity High School, after which he experienced his call to the Ministry of Gospel of Jesus Christ and attended Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1959. He was also a 1961 graduate of the School of Pastoral Care, Winston-Salem. He furthered his degree at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree in 1966, a Master of Divinity in 1973, and a Doctor of Divinity in Evangelism in 2002.
Over the course of his life he has served as Associate Pastor at his home church, Pilot View Baptist Church where he was ordained and Interim Pastor at Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church, Albertson Road Baptist Church, Reavis Memorial Baptist Church, Abbott’s Creek Baptist Church, Morningside Manor Baptist Mission, Wise Baptist Church, and Green Hill Baptist Church; Pastor at Union Cross Baptist Mission, Jewel Baptist Church, Blaise Baptist Church, and Green Hill Baptist Church; Youth Director at Green Street Baptist Church; Chaplin at Army Reserves and National Guards; Associate Director of the Division of Evangelism, Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Together with his wife he started the Jimmy Hinson Evangelism, Inc, and Reach Out Evangelism Ministries, Inc,. and had conducted church related revivals in over 800 churches in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia, Alaska, Brazil and India. He was also the Senior Adult Pastor at Old Town Baptist Church. During his ministry he had radio and television ministries, “Echoes of Evangelism”, “Religious News”’ and A Time for Truth”.
When not ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ he enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, bantams and bees.
In addition to his wife and mother, Rev. Hinson is survived by a son, Jimmy D. Hinson, Jr. and his wife Sharmon of High Point; a daughter Phelecia Corpening and her husband, Jim of Tryon, NC; a grandson, Jason M. Corpening of Tryon; a brother, Tony D. Hinson of San Diego, California.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale with Rev. Joe Coltrane, Rev. Steve Hedgecock, and Rev. Rick Speas officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
