Mrs. Neva (Oody) Jacobs, 101, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Piedmont Crossing Retirement Community.
Mrs. Jacobs was born on July 6, 1912 in Loudon, Tennessee a daughter of the late Abner and Addison (Malone) Oody. She was a former employee of Slane Hosiery Mills, Inc. for many years.
She was a member of Bethel Temple Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and canning. She also loved music and played the piano, guitar, harmonica and tambourine. Mrs. Jacobs especially loved spending time with her family.
Mrs. Jacobs is survived by a daughter, Sharron Gibson and her husband, William Gene of New Bern; four grandchildren, Teresa Jones and husband, Earl Jeffrey of Thomasville, Gail Bivens of New Bern, Monroe Hoyt Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Vickie of Little Switzerland, NC, and William Jeffery Gibson of New Bern; seven great grandchildren, Stephanie Doughty and her husband, Matt, Earl Dane Jones, Lance Bivens, Amanda Sutphin, Eric Freedle, Nick Freedle, and Bailey Freedle; two great-great grandchildren, Hunter and Austin Doughty; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands, John Authur McGill and George Jess Jacobs, a son Robert Lee McGill; a great grandson, Andrew Rife; four sisters; and five brothers.
A celebration of life service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point with Rev. Bruce Johnson and Rev. Daniel Downing officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
