William Scott Cherry, age 46, went to his heavenly home Saturday, July 19, 2014.

He was born on May 20, 1968 in Gaston County, NC to the late Thomas and Betty Cherry. He graduated from high school in Cherryville, NC. After high school Scott joined the Navy and was stationed at the San Diego Naval Station where he served aboard the USS Downs and later on the USS McKee. In 1994, while aboard the USS McKee he received a distinguished award for Sailor of the Year. He received his Undergraduate Degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University in 2001.  Scott was employed as a Civil Engineer with the City of High Pont and was a member of the American Public Works Association. He received his Professional Engineer’s license from the State of NC in May of 2014.  He was a loving husband, father, brother, Papa, and loyal friend. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was a brother, Richard Cherry.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Joy Cherry; his daughter, Tara Cartier, his step-father, Wally Hasz. Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Aiden and Addison SoRelle.

A service to celebrate Scott’s life will be held Friday morning at 11 o’clock at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with Pastor Terry Austin officiating. Military rites will follow accorded by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
