Mrs. Thelma G. (Traylor) Gatewood, 83, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 at GrayBrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward H. Williford, Sr. in 1962 and her second husband James Cary Gatewood, Jr., in 2006.
Mrs. Gatewood was born on January 5, 1931, in Weldon, NC a daughter of the late James Alexander and Audry (Elmore) Traylor, Sr. She was a former City of High Point employee in their Billing Department for over 30 years until her retirement.
She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church where she taught the preschool Sunday school class for many years during her adult life.
In her spare time she enjoyed golfing, singing and playing the organ, and drawing different art projects for her students.
Mrs. Gatewood is survived by three children, Beverly W. Giles and her husband, Randy of Archdale, Holt Williford and his wife, Kathy of High Point, and Christy G. Carden and her husband, Brad of Trinity; a step-son, James Cary Gatewood of Greensboro; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Traylor and a sister, Lucille Thomas.
Funeral Services will be private at the request of the family.
