Alice (Robbins) Newton

Alice Robbins Newton, 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Spring Arbor in Greensboro.

Alice was born on October 30, 1941 in Blowing Rock to the late Lloyd Spencer Robbins and Alma Benfield Robbins. 

A 50 year resident of High Point, Alice attended Mars Hill College and Women’s College of Greensboro, where she received a degree in Home Economics.  She taught in the Guilford County School System for many years before working at Hospice of the Piedmont, a job she loved.  Alice was a faithful member of Green Street Baptist Church, and a devoted mother who made her children feel loved and was a friend to many.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Newton; a brother, Jack Robbins and two sisters, Josephine Cessna and Betty Taylor.

Family members who will cherish her memories are her children, Allison Richter and  Michael Russell of Sterling, VA;  Jana and Derrick Moody of Summerfield;  Richard and  Kristain Coffey of Kernersville; her sister Eleanor Kiney and husband, Terry of St. Petersburg, FL;  and her nephew Charles Cessna and family of High Point.  Alice was also much loved by her six grandchildren; Davis and Rylan Coffey, Abby and Ben Richter, Jacob and Nathan Moody whom she adored.

The family will honor Alice’s life at 11:00AM on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Green Street Baptist Church 303 N. Rotary Drive in High Point.  Rev. Frank Hensley will officiate, and burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery at 3:30PM in Blowing Rock, NC.  The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service between 9:30 -10:45AM on Friday at the church.
