Annette (Broome) Payne

HIGH POINT - Annette Broome Payne, 87, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Brookdale Assisted Living and Memory Care.

She was born on August 30, 1930, in Cross Anchor, SC, and was the daughter of the late Rev. Dewey Dawson and Ethel Blackwelder Broome.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from High Point College and her Masters of Education degree from UNC-Greensboro.  Mrs. Payne taught school in the Guilford County School System for many years, primarily teaching at Trinity High School and Ragsdale High School.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church in High Point where she was a member of the Hays Bible Class, member and past president of the United Methodist Women, and was an active volunteer with the Parson’s Table.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Moore Payne; and two brothers, Earnest Broome and Frank Broome.

She is survived by two sons, Mark Payne and his wife, Susie, of High Point and David Payne and his wife, Kathleen, of Virginia Beach, VA; and three grandchildren, Catherine Payne of High Point, Sheryl Payne of Washington, DC, and Daniel Payne of Charlotte.

A memorial service celebrating Annette’s life will be held at 11:00 Saturday, October 21, 2017, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Fitzgerald and the Rev. Debra Swing officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Friday, October 20, 2017, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 512 N. Main Street, High Point, NC  27260; or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC  27262.
