Baxter Ray Coltrane

Mr. Baxter Ray Coltrane, 94, resident of Trinity, died December 3, 2017 at Hospice Home at High Point.

Mr. Coltrane was born June 7, 1923 in Guilford County, a son to the late Charles and Bertha Winslow Coltrane.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the 135th Infantry Division in Africa and Italy.  A resident of this area all his life, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and had worked at American Manufacturing.  Baxter enjoyed working in his garden and loved giving his tomatoes away wherever and whenever he could.  On May 29, 1944 he married the former Alma May Baughard who preceded him in death on August 10, 2015.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Coltrane; and a sister, Edna Whitt.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Coltrane and husband Edward of Thomasville and Joyce Younger and husband Jerry of Trinity; a son, Darrell Coltrane and wife Janice of Kernersville; a grandson, Jason Coltrane of Wallburg; a brother, Robert Coltrane and wife Betty of Emporia, VA; two sisters, Hilda Thompson of Greensboro and Phyllis Cain and husband Irvin of Sophia; and his precious dog, Scooter.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Steve Jarvis and Rev. David Rorie officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the graveside service from 2:00-2:45 p.m. at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.  Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC, 27262.
