She worked in the motel industry for most of her career and was the manager of the Town House Motel in High Point from the day it opened in 1956 until it sold in 1987.  During those years, she was very active in the North Carolina Motel Association in Raleigh, serving as President and on the board.  She was also active with the Travel and Tourist Committee of the High Point Chamber of Commerce off and on for many years.  In 1987, Betty became manager of the Cricket Lodge in Thomasville and worked there until she retired in 1995.  While there, she served on the Tourist Committee of the Thomasville Chamber of Commerce.  For almost the next nine years, Betty worked at WCHP Fox 8 until she retired for a second time.

Betty always had a great interest in all types of needlework, including knitting, needlepoint, cross-stich and quilting.  She belonged to the Needlework Guild and was a charter member of the Piedmont Quilter’s Guild which started in 1980.  She served as President twice and was on the board for several years.  Betty worked on two state quilt symposiums and local quilt shows.  Recognized as an accomplished needleworker, she was awarded many ribbons in needlepoint and quilting.

Betty also enjoyed collecting teddy bears and had an extensive collection, including some old, new and many she made herself.  She also enjoyed making them for family and friends.  A loving mother and grandmother, Betty touched the lives of many throughout her life.
