Charles R Kellum Sr.

Charles Ransom Kellum, Sr, 83, passed peacefully Sunday morning, December 10th, at his home surrounded by family.

     Charles was born March 5th, 1934, in Jacksonville, NC to Charles and Hazel Kellum. He spent many of his early years with his grandparents in Wilson, NC, graduating from Charles L.Coon High School in 1952. Upon graduation, he enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Navy until being honorably discharged in 1956.

     After serving his country, Charles began a career with BellSouth. Highlights of his career include relocating from Maryland to Greensboro, NC and the installation of 911 Emergency Services in Guilford County.

     Charles married Judy Ruth Dupont in 1960, a marriage that would last over fifty-seven years. Together they had a daughter, Carolyn, in 1961 and a son, Charles Jr, in 1965.

     Charles retired from BellSouth in 1994 after thirty-eight years of service. He enjoyed a very happy and active retirement which included stops in Beaufort, NC and Houston, TX before returning to the Greensboro, NC area in recent years. Charles enjoyed socializing with friends and family, golf, snow-skiing and sailing. His absolute favorite hobby was riding his motorcycle and he recently completed a tour of North Carolina that passed through every county. Charles possessed a wide variety of skills as a handyman and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to family and friends.

     Charles is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Judy Kellum; daughter, Carrie Dulmage; son, Charles Kellum, Jr; grandchildren, John Winters, Chuck Dulmage, Nick Dulmage, Chris Dulmage, Kayleigh Kellum and Landon Kellum; life-long friend Elmo Barnes.

     The family will hold a private memorial some time in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
