Dennis Joseph Desmond, Sr.

HIGH POINT – Dennis Joseph Desmond, Sr., 73, died Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Kernersville Medical Center.

He was born July 5, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York, and was the son of the late Daniel and Mildred Citera Desmond. He was a retired Superintendent with the New York City Housing Authority. Dennis was an avid golfer, played softball and baseball and was a die-hard New York Mets fan. He also enjoyed hunting deer and collected eagles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Desmond and Daniel Desmond.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Lillian Helen Betancourt Desmond, whom he married on August 17, 2002; six daughters, Sherry Desmond of Pennsylvania, Christy Desmond of Queens, New York, Kellyann Valentin (Paul Maisonet) of Bronx, New York, Jessica Betancourt (Danny Lorenzo) of New Windsor, New York, Jillian Ayende (Enoc) of Staley, North Carolina and Vivian Moreno of Newburgh, New York; three sons, Dennis Desmond, Jr. of Florida, Steven Desmond of Colorado and Scott Desmond of Florida; twenty grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annette Desmond of Brooksville, Florida, and Donna Denatale of Orlando, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

A Gathering of Family and Friends to celebrate Dennis’s life will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
