Donnie Ray Hutchinson

Mr. Donnie Ray Hutchinson, 78, resident of New London, NC, died June 15, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Hutchinson was born July 4, 1938 in Guilford County, a son to the late Oscar W. and Lula Mae Goins Hutchinson.  He was raised in the Oakdale Mill community of Jamestown and had lived in the Trinity area 28 years until moving to Badin Lake 14 years ago.  He worked in the furniture industry with several different companies over his career and retired from Furnitureland South in 2005.  Ray also was active with the Boy Scouts, serving as scout master and assistant scout master over the course of 18 years.  In addition to that, he was a member of the Badin Shores Chapel, a veteran of the U.S. National Guard and an avid fisherman.

Surviving is his wife, the former Shirley Portis, of the residence; two sons, Jerry Branch and wife Phyllis of Trinity and Chris Hutchinson and wife Kristie of Denton; a sister, Pat Hatfield and husband Verlan of Denton; three grandchildren, Allison Pittman and husband Josh of Kernersville, Zachary Hutchinson and wife Hannah of Morrisville and Hailey Hulin and husband Bradley of Huntsville, AL; a step-brother, Gary Armstrong of New London; and a sister-in-law, Terri Hutchinson of Trinity.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Dr. Brad Garrigues officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in High Point.  Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to Badin Shores Chapel, 111 Dove Ln. New London, NC, 28217.
