In 1962 I would have no idea how fortunate I was to be assigned as my first teacher at Cloverdale Elementry School this wonderful lady Mrs Henley. A bond was formed and we became forever friends. My mom was an avid mailer of Christmas cards and I asked if I could send my first grade teacher one that Christmas of 1962. We have exchanged Christmas cards every year since. With personal notes and pictures each year as we grew older and our families expanded. We had visited a few times in person over the years and i was saddened to get the call she was terminally ill. Was so fortunate to have such a wonderful visit with her just a couple weeks ago and received several heartfelt hugs from this wonderful friend. She told me she loved me and I so loved her as well. She will always be in my heart and thoughts. My condolences to her family and loved ones.

Mrs Henley was the best neighbor anyone could ask to have. We grew up next door to the family and they were great then, but when our parents were there alone she looked over them and brought the most delicious treats to them. I spoke to her just a couple of months ago and she asked about my children by name even remembering what they had been doing the last time we spoke. Such an amazing woman that everyone who knew her will miss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

If you knew Doris Henley, you would never forget her.
She was blessed with an interest in others...and it was an abiding part of who she was.
Of course, it also invited an interest in her and her family!
Doris and Boyden grace some of my earliest memories...and I treasure the fact Doris always treated me the same...from toddler to teenager to Congress and beyond, she always addressed me in the same affectionate manner...and I will always remember her.
May the Holy Spirit comfort her children and family at this trying time.

Blessings,

JD Hayworth
