Eloise "Miss Ellie" Gitel (Bogen) Shavitz

High Point—Eloise “Miss Ellie” Gitel  Bogen Shavitz, 83, died January 14, 2018 after a brief illness. She was born in Middlesex NC to the late Jedido Samuel Bogen and Nettie Irene Gideon Bogen.

"Miss Ellie", as she was affectionately known, was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She never met a stranger and spread her love and generosity among many people throughout her lifetime.
A serious car wreck in 2005 left her with an eye patch and cane,  but she never lost her zest for life. She never asked, "Why me?". She made lemonade out of lemons. Many of you around town may know her for her colorful eye patches that she made to match her stylish clothing. She would tell young children she was "A friendly Pirate". 
She loved to entertain and cook meals for her friends and children's friends. She had a loving, nurturing personality that drew so many people to her. She loved unconditionally, as many people will tell you.
But her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She was their rock and will be forever in the hearts of so many lives she touched. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Henry Harris Shavitz

She is survived by her Children; Charles Shavitz(Margaret), Brisbane Australia,; Allison Shavitz, High Point; Jay Shavitz (Dona) Little River, SC; Lori Mendel(Richard), Loganville ,GA; Saul Shavitz (Meg), Myrtle Beach, SC; Brother; Ray Bryant(Mary) Clarksville, VA; Grandchildren ; Samantha , Izabella, and John Michael Shavitz, Rayne and Zach Mendel, Belinda Driscoll (Michael), Natalie Boatwright, Adam Hopkins(Rebecca); Great Grandchildren Tom, Daniel, Ben Driscoll, Lachlan and James Boatwright, Rosie, Jack, and Maggie Hopkins; and loving cat Chuckietwo.

A Graveside service will be held1:00 pm Sunday at High Point Hebrew Cemetery.

In lieu of Flowers Memorials may be directed to the ASPCA, Hospice of the Piedmont or your local Humane Society.
