Floyd "Curly" Lee Rich

Mr. Floyd Lee “Curly” Rich 79, formerly of Lexington and currently of High Point, passed away June 23, 2017 at his home.  Mr. Rich was born June 27, 1936 in Buncombe County, a son of the late Homer L. and Bessie McElrath Rich.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1956 to 1962 as an engineer aboard the USS Saratoga.  Mr. Rich was of the Baptist faith and attended various churches.  He was retired from Frank IX & Sons with 25 years of service and PPG Industries with 15 years of service.

Mr. Rich was an avid golfer with a handicap of 2.  His love of golf began in early 1961 and spanned his entire adult life.  He was the recipient of numerous trophies, plaques and awards.  He also enjoyed woodworking and nature.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rich was preceded in death by four brothers; Albert B., Alvin E., Clyde L., and Ernest G. Rich.

Surviving are a daughter, Tammy L. Rich of Lexington, a sister Sue Tysinger of Lexington; brothers, Robert and wife Helen and Harley both of High Point, John and wife Virginia of Lexington and Millard of Georgia.  He is also survived by his devoted, loving friend of many years, Gwendolyn Owens and her family, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held  11:00 am Wednesday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point,  with the Reverend Bruno Wolfe officiating.  Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.  The family will greet friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 pm.
