Frances Geary

HIGH POINT, NC Frances Geary passed away peacefully at her home in Pennybyrn at Maryfield on February 7, 2018. She was surrounded by family and the loving nuns of Pennybyrn. Fran was born in Bloomfield, New Jersey, on April 8, 1924, to Frank and Regina Fitzgerald. She grew up in Bloomfield with her siblings, Jean, Frank and Ruth, and many aunts, uncles and cousins who lived nearby. We loved to hear the sweet, simple memories of her childhood. In 1945, she met and married the love of her life, William "Brud" Geary, and they were by each other's side for 64 precious years. She was a gentle, loving mom to six daughters--the ultimate caregiver through the ups and downs of life. She always looked for ways to be kind and helpful to those in need. Fran loved the simple things in life, especially annual family trips to the Jersey shore. She was quick to laugh, and her favorite phrase was "Never lose your sense of humor." She was preceded in death by her husband Brud, sister Jean, brother Frank and sons-in-law Bob, Dan, Ted and Robbie. She is survived by her daughters Patricia Norton (Bill), Kathleen Van Horn (Al), Maureen Brosnan, Ellen Geary, Jean McCloskey (Sterling) and Marybeth Bedrosian (Jack); 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her sister Ruth. She loved them all dearly. The family wants to thank all of Fran's friends at Pennybyrn, and its staff, who made her last six years so joyful. We especially want to thank the sisters of the Poor Servants of the Mother of God, who brightened her days and were by her side in her final hours, ushering her toward her home in heaven. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Pennybyrn at Maryfield. There will be a celebration of life at Pennybyrn at a future date.
