Welcome to the memorial page for

Frederick A. Kelly, Sr.

February 25, 1934 ~ May 26, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Frederick A. Kelly, Sr., of Jamestown, NC - a man of commanding presence, optimistic spirit and just a bit of mischief - died on May 26.  He was 83.

Born on February 25, 1934, in Buchanan, NY, the list of Fred's accomplishments and accolades is lengthy and distinguished:  He lettered in four sports at Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, NY (Class of 1952) and graduated from then - Utica Technical College, with an associate degree in 1954.  He served in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of sergeant, during the Korean War.  And he worked for Sears Roebuck & Company for nearly 35 years, starting as a trainee and retiring as a store manager.

On August 28, 1954, Fred married the love of his life, W. Jean Kelly, who died in 2010.  Together, they raised three children:  Frederick A. Kelly, Jr. (Maureen Cavallucci) of Reading, PA; Karla Kelly Irving (Gregory Irving) of Northbrook, IL; and John P. Kelly (Amy Dorsett) of Greensboro, NC.  Their grandsons - Daniel Gregory Irving, James Frederick Irving, Jeremy Michael Kelly and Jack Dorsett Kelly - were their pride and joy.

While family was always very important to Fred, so was community.  He lived to serve and did so by taking on leadership roles in numerous organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, Rotary International, Lion's International and the Jaycees.  In 1970, Fred was named "Outstanding Young Man of Delaware" by the Delaware Jaycees, proudly beating out future Gov. Pierre DuPont for the honor.

An avid golfer, Fred would insist that his two holes-in-one be listed here.

Family and friends - who will miss Fred's infectious laugh and gregarious nature - may pay their respects on Friday, June 2, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, High Point, NC, followed at 11:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial with Reverend Joseph C. Zuschmidt, O.S.F.S. officiating.  Entombment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum in Greensboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that you make a donation in Fred's name to your local Hospice organization.
