Mr. Gary Wayne Washam, 67, resident of Pfafftown, died August 3, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Winston-Salem.
Mr. Washam was born June 8, 1950 in Plant City, FL, a son to the late Garfield F. and Reba Kitchens Washam. He has been a resident of this area most of his life, growing up here and moving back after several years spent in DuBois, Pennsylvania. Gary spent his career in the food service industry, owning several restaurants including, Al’s, Gary’s Diner and Oyster Bay. He also worked as director of operations at K&W Cafeteria. Gary was passionate about Project Healing Waters, a service dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled veterans through fly fishing. He also was a 32nd degree mason, an avid hunter, golfer, and member of Old Town Baptist Church. In 1993 he married the former Michelle Buie who survives of the residence.
Also surviving is a daughter, Daneal Washam of Thomasville; two step-sons, Matthew Harding and wife Kristina of Advance and Shane Washam of Thomasville; two brothers, Larry Washam and wife Linda of Thomasville and Randy Washam of Davidson County; and two grandchildren, Katelyn Paul and Jamison Harding. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jason Washam.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Old Town Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with Dr. Rick Speas officiating. Interment will follow the service at 3:00 p.m. at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
