Gerald David Sechrest

Mr. Gerald David Sechrest, Jr., of Archdale, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Born October 26, 1944, in High Point, David was the son of Gerald David and Elizabeth Hill Sechrest. His father preceded him in death. David served in the Boy Scouts and played Little League and Red Shield Baseball. He graduated from High Point Central High School in 1963. He was a veteran of the NC National Guard. David worked with his father in the finishing business, and later was co-founder and co-owner of Quality Packaging. There he served as Vice President, until 1979, when David along with his wife, Phyllis, started Sechrest Finishing Co. Inc.

David had served as an Ordained Deacon at Friendly Baptist Church in High Point, and later became a member of Archdale Friends Meeting. At Archdale Friends, David sung in the choir and also played guitar and sang with The Good News Boys. He was an avid deer hunter, and loved golfing. He was active in the High Point Senior Golf Association and was the association’s Champion in 1999 and 2000.

On January 24, 1968, David married the former Phyllis Linthicum, who survives of the home. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth Hill Sechrest; daughter, Regina Sechrest and husband, Jimmy Bowman; two grandchildren, Brayden and Brooklyn Sechrest-Bowman; and two sisters, Maxine Sechrest Fisher and husband, David, and Daphne Sechrest and Kenneth Johnson.

Funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Friday at Archdale Friends Meeting, officiated by Ben Hurley, Retired Quaker Minister and Pastor Michael Mabe. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
