High Point-- James (Jimmy) Don Boggs, 80, of High Point passed away peacefully on Monday, July 31. 

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday August 6, 2017 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with visitation to follow in the church Parrish Hall.  Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.  

Jim was born December 20, 1936 in High Point to John Waddell and Tobitha Cheek Boggs.  He was a 1955 graduate of High Point High School, where he excelled in athletics.  He was a stand-out football lineman who played in the 1954 Shrine Bowl, and was a 3-time heavyweight state wrestling champion.  Following high school, he served 4 years in the United States Air Force and played football while stationed at Mitchell Air Force Base in Long Island, NY.  He then attended CW Post College where he was a 4-year starting lineman on the football team.  Following graduation, he coached the CW Post football team and served as the Defensive Coordinator from 1964-1972.  In 1972 he returned to High Point and worked at Viking Fire Protection for 45 years until his retirement last year. 

He was honored to be inducted into both the CW Post College Hall of Fame and into the High Point Central Hall Of Fame for his athletic accomplishments.

Most importantly, Jim was a good husband, a great father, and absolutely the best grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 55-years Judy, his daughter Jennifer & wife Kim, his son Jimmy & wife Amy, and his son Jeffrey & wife Leigh-Anne.  His biggest joy was his five grandchildren, who will miss him dearly:  Anna, Emily, Jake, Clayton, & Cole.  He is also survived by his sister Hazel Messinger, brother-in-law Joe Kenn & wife Carol, eight nieces and one nephew.  He was predeceased by his parents, his brother John William (Jake) Boggs, and his sisters Ruth Call, Betty James, and Shirley Wood.
