James Plato Davis

Mr. James Plato Davis, 98, of Kernersville, NC, died July 7, 2017.

Jim was born in Guilford County, a son to Plato Melvin Davis and Ada Bristow Davis.  He was a graduate of High Point High School, class of 1937.  He attended High Point College.  Jim entered the Army to serve during World War II from 1942-1945, in both the American and European Theatre of Operations.  He was employed by the Veterans’ Administration, finance division, for 38 years.  Jim was a birthright member of Springfield Friends Meeting, serving faithfully in many capacities throughout his years.

Jim married the love of his life, Hyacinth Wyoline Hedrick in 1941.  They celebrated their 73rd anniversary before her death in 2014.

Surviving are his daughter, Jane Davis Rees and husband, Thomas Hester Rees, Sr. of Williamsburg, VA.  Their children are Dr. Catherine Rees Lintzenich (husband Mike; son Henry) of Williamsburg, VA; Thomas Hester Rees, Jr. (wife Melissa; children David and Abby) of Jamesville, NY; Julie Rees Brenegan (husband Jeff; children Macy, Jackson, Grant, and Lily) of Williamsburg, VA; and Susan Rees Rogers (husband Chris; children Scarlet, Harrison, Elliot, and Madeline) of Lanexa, VA.  Jim is also survived by his son, James Hedrick Davis, wife Judy Bovender Davis, and their children Laura Catherine Davis and Maxwell Bovender Davis of Oak Ridge, NC.

A memorial service will be held on July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Springfield Friends Meeting.  Jim’s family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Memorials may be directed to Springfield Friends Meeting, 555 E. Springfield Rd. High Point, NC, 27260.
