Ms. Judy Hughes Sheldon passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at High Point Regional Hospital after battling a long period of illness. She was 74 years old. A resident of this area for all of her life, Judy spent over 30 years working in human resources at Black Smith Shop in High Point. She was preceded in death by her parents C.B. Hughes and Esther Modlin Hughes.
Ms. Sheldon was a special, independent lady, who will always be remembered by her family and friends as a person who rarely thought of herself, yet focused on the wellbeing and happiness of others. Growing up in High Point, she developed strong relationships with her siblings and remained close to them throughout her life. Later, as a mother, she worked hard to provide for her family, and often put her children’s well being and happiness above else. This personality allowed Ms. Sheldon to develop many special, lasting friendships that carried on for many years. As a result of watching many sporting events with her children as they were growing up, Judy became an avid UNC TarHeel fan, and developed a fondness for many different sports. Ms. Sheldon also loved to admire the beauty of flowers. However, nothing eclipsed the special relationship that Judy developed with her grandchildren, Kristin and Nikki, who were so special to her.
Ms. Sheldon is survived by three children, Edward Craig Sheldon of High Point, Richard Boyd Sheldon and significant other Timberly Clark of High Point, and Janice Ritter and husband Chuck of Cañon City, Colorado; three siblings, Jerry Hughes and wife Tommi of High Rock Lake, Norma Kirkman and husband Ronnie of Archdale, and Richard Hughes and wife Pamela of Archdale; two grandchildren, Kristin Barringer of High Point, and Nikki Gaddison of Winston-Salem. Ms. Sheldon is also survived by two special dogs, Leon and Sammy.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with the Reverend Bruce Langley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff at the High Point Kidney Center and also at High Point Regional Hospital. Furthermore, the family would like to express their gratitude to all of Ms Sheldon’s special friends who did so much to contribute to Mrs. Sheldon’s well being over the years.
