Kenneth Graham Monroe, 80, of Trinity, NC, passed away on January 9, 2018 at Hospice House of Asheboro after a hard fought battle with cancer.

He was born in Davidson County on September 20, 1937, son of the late Millard and Margaret Monroe.  He is survived by his wife, Irene Smith Monroe, and his three children: Keith Monroe and wife Angela, Laura Lynn Monroe, and Denni Pitt & her late husband Terry Pitt.  He is also survived by his brothers: Leon Monroe and his deceased wife Cindy, Harold Dean Monroe and his wife Susie, Ed Monroe and his wife Pat, Wayne Monroe and his wife Brenda, Charles Monroe and his wife Brenda.  He is also survived by his two sisters: Vera Stanley and her deceased husband Harold, and Fairlee Webb and her deceased husband Jerry.  He is preceded in death by his two sisters: Clementine Hill and her late husband Bobby and Evelyn Clark and her husband Charlie.  Kenneth had two grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was a proud U.S. Veteran.  He served in the Army from 1960-1962.  He also served three years in the National Guard.  He started working at Galloway Buick in 1968, where he worked for forty years.  After retiring, Kenneth enjoyed: gardening, watching sports, spending quality time with his family and friends, attending church faithfully, and he loved reading.  Nothing made Kenneth happier than giving fresh fruit and vegetables from his garden to neighbors, family, and friends.  He took great pride in his garden.

Kenneth was a God fearing man who was a lifelong member of Poplar Ridge Friends Church.  He read the Bible each and every day and he did not just attend church, instead he lived his life by the word of God.  He was always there for his family, his friends, his neighbors, and anyone that was in need.  He was there to lend a helping hand or to simply listen and if needed give advice.  He was an extremely humble man with no regard to money, belongings, or bragging.  However, he was very proud of the children he had raised and told them so often.

A visitation will be held Sunday January 14th from 2:00-3:00 pm with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 3:00pm at Poplar Ridge Friends Church located at: 3673 Hoover Hill Road, Trinity, NC 27370.  The service will be officiated by: Dave Mercadante and Brian Donley.  Family and friends are welcome to a gathering with refreshments at the Church’s fellowship hall immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kenneth Graham Monroe to Poplar Ridge Friends Church at the above address.
