HIGH POINT – Verda LaRue Newby Tolbert, 94, died peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2024, at her home.
She was born February 10, 1930, in Randolph County and was the daughter of the late John LaRue and Lonie Adams Newby. She retired from AT&T following twenty-six years of service as a purchasing agent. She was a longtime member of Ward Street Church in High Point.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, George Eugene “Gene” Tolbert; and daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dan Scott.
LaRue is survived by her granddaughter, Brandy Lowery (Perry) of Thomasville; sister, Pauline “Polly” Bulla of Trinity; sister-in-law, Deanie Tolbert Bartlett (George) of High Point; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service celebrating LaRue’s life will be held at 2:00pm Friday, April 26, 2024, at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. John Vernon officiating.
The family will speak with friends immediately following the service Friday at the cemetery.
