Lou Dean Howard (nee Graham), 82, passed peacefully at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point on Saturday, September 16. A High Point resident since 1968, she was born on August 11, 1935 in Conway, AR to Nathan E. Graham and Martha Regina Sutherland Graham and later moved to Stamps, AR. She earned degrees at Arkansas State Teachers’ College and George Peabody College. An elementary school teacher for 37 years in five states, she taught at Westchester Academy and within the High Point/Greensboro public school system.
Ever active throughout life in the church and community, Mrs. Howard sang in the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church choir and took great pride in her service in the church's Stephen Ministry. She also served in various positions in the American Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Kappa, Beta Xi, Delta Kappa Gama, and the Clan Graham Society.
Mrs. Howard is pre-deceased by her parents, her sister, Veta Gwyn Blewster, and her brother, Doyne E. Graham. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert H. Howard; her son, Kenneth Paul, and the families of her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial service will be at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 23 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends in the Asbury Room following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262 or to the Stephen Ministry at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Dr. High Point, NC, 27262.
