Mary Irene (Hiatt) Spivey

HIGH POINT - Mary Irene Hiatt Spivey, 90, passed away August 7, 2017.

She was born December 21, 1926 in Wallburg, NC, to the late Samuel A. Hiatt and Mary Robertson Hiatt. Mary lived most of her life in Guilford County with the exception of two years in Austin, Texas.  She was employed at Tomlinson Furniture and Hi-Lite Chairs for years before becoming co-owner of Decorator’s Services.  She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel A. and Jesse A. Hiatt; three sisters, Frances Bodenhammer, Gracie Morgan and Stella Lawrence; and one grandson, David Spivey.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, Jerry H. Spivey; two daughters, Marsha Spivey Miller and husband Eldon of Gunnison, Utah, and Kathy Spivey Elmore and husband Charles of Lexington; son, James S. Spivey and wife Vickie of Trinity; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2017, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1830 Chestnut Drive in High Point.  Bishop David Hall to officate the service.  Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Cemetery in Colfax.

The family will receive friends on 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
