GREENSBORO-Nathaniel Cicero Hicks (“NC”), age 89, passed away peaceably at his home on Thursday, July 20, 2017, after battling with cancer for several years. We take comfort in knowing he is home with the Lord. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Living Waters Baptist Church, 5667 Old Randleman Road, Greensboro, NC 27406. Rev. Tony Thomas and Rev. Kevin Hicks will officiate. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park with military rites by the U.S. Navy and the Randolph County Honor Guard. 

NC was born March 3, 1928, in Stoneville, North Carolina.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Vera Hicks; brother and sister-in-law, Harry, Jr. and Virginia Hicks, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Wilbert Freeman and Nancy and Al Reeves; grandsons, Jeffrey Brian Martin and Jonathan Wayne Martin.

NC is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Margaret Stanley Hicks; his daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and James Larry Martin; sons and daughters-in-law, David and TuYon Hicks, Jimmy and Becky Hicks and Robert and Charlotte Hicks; his brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Frances Hicks; sister, Martha Jane McCormick; grandchildren, Joseph and Rebecca Martin; Angel and Jeremy Hayes ; Kevin and Jennifer Hicks, Carolyn and Danny Dalton;  Amy Carson; Joshua and Larissa Hicks and Amanda and Cristian Razzini; 20 great- grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, as well as numerous nieces, and nephews.

NC served in the Navy during World War II. He owned his own company, Hicks Painting & Remodeling, Inc. He enjoyed golfing and fishing.

He was a member and Deacon of Living Waters Baptist Church; his company built the church.  NC loved his Lord, his family, and his church.  He was hard-working both at work and at home. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He never met a stranger and he touched many lives for the Lord.

The family will receive family and friends Sunday evening, July 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Living Waters Baptist Church.
