O. F. Carter, Jr.

SWANSBORO-Orville Forrest Carter, Jr., 89, of 105 Wind Dance Lane, Swansboro passed Tuesday, February 14 at Carolina Rivers Nursing And Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville.

He was the oldest of the 12 children born to Orville and Elizabeth Carter of Black Mountain, NC. He attended Owen Middle School in Black Mountain. At the age of 12 he went to work for the Phillips family, owner of the Monte Vista Motel, canning vegetables. At the age of 16, he went to work for Beacon Blanket Mills in Swannanoa. On August 27, 1947 he married the love of his life, Helen Johnson Carter. They shared a great love for the next 58 years. Together, they had 3 children.

 In 1958, they moved to High Point, NC. There O. F. Carter worked as an electrician by day and ran the projector at the local drive-in theatre at night. In 1966, he passed his unlimited electrical contractors exam. From 1967 until his retirement in 2003 he operated Carter Electric.

O. F. Carter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his son Arnold F. Carter, and his daughter Brenda Milam. He is survived by his son Rocky and wife Lisa, and their daughter Anna Clair' of Swansboro, his 5 surviving grandchildren, Shane and wife Lori Carter, Sonya Ivey, Christy and husband Steve Southern, Eric and Kelley Richardson Cammie Burns and husband James, great grandchildren Ryan Watkins, Shay and Carson Richardson.

Services will be Friday, February 17, 2017 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.  at Cumby Funeral Home, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point, NC followed by a 3:00 p.m. graveside service at Floral Garden Park Cemetery at 1730 W. English Rd. At 5:00 p.m. there will be a reception at the Country Inn and Suites located at 10151 N. Main St. Archdale, NC. Sunday, February 19 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., there will be a reception honoring O.F. Carter, Jr. at Jones Brothers Funeral Home in Swansboro.
