Dear Diane and family,
I heard only this morning, from a mutual friend, that Rion was gone.
We have never met but Rion told me so much about you and the children. He was a year ahead of me in college and a true friend - as close as I had to an older brother during those years and the period after his return to Northern CA from Vietnam. He shared many disturbing stories of his war experience and I was honored to turn the tables and be a sister upon whom he felt safe unloading those awful memories.
On one particular night, he threw his dog tags across the room and asked me to toss them in the trash. I couldn't do it and, about three decades later, discovered them in an old jewelry box. I located him and told him, he wanted them back, and I was glad to send them to him after all those years.
My apologies for the length of this but he is much in my thoughts today, as are all of you. Please accept these delayed condolences - he was a very special person and I know how much you must miss him. All of us who had the good fortune to know him will miss him too.
