Winston – Salem – Virginia Walser Hicks, 88, formerly of High Point, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Arbor Acres.

Born March 2, 1936, in High Point, Ginger was the daughter of the late Joseph Gaither and Margaret Snyder Walser. In addition to her parents, her husband Stephen “Francis” Hicks preceded her in death. Ginger began working in the furniture industry at the age of 16, and was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in High Point. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill having earned her bachelor’s degree in education. After college, she taught second grade for the High Point City Schools, and later taught kindergarten at First Presbyterian Church. She returned to the furniture industry working in showroom sales at Market Square for a number of years. Ginger was a great lady and a wonderful person. Her taste was impeccable and she loved the beach and her Tarheels with equal passion.

Ginger is survived by two daughters, Mary Cunningham and husband, George, of Wake Forest, and Ginger Salt and husband, Ben of Winston – Salem; four grandchildren, Sarah Moeller and husband, Peter, George “Sonny” Cunningham and wife, Lauren, Jack Salt, and Meg Salt; and three great grandchildren, Sands and Hunt Moeller and Reynolds Cunningham. Also surviving are three brothers, Joe Walser and wife, Cathy, of Wilmington, Tom Walser and wife, Terri, of Greensboro, and John Walser and wife, Debbie, of Apex.

Funeral will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 25th, in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point, officiated by Rev. Erin Bowers. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Life Tribute Center on the Cumby campus one hour prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina or Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County.
