Francis Wayne Hammonds was called home to be with the Lord on March 22, 2024. By His grace and mercy, he passed peacefully at home surrounded by love in Denton, NC.
Wayne was born April 24, 1954, to the late William Spurgeon Hammonds and Beulah Emma Altman Hammonds of Thomasville
Wayne was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country as a Huey helicopter mechanic in Germany. Post military service he was a long distance truck driver. He was joined for several of those years by the love of his life Joan.
Wayne was an active and much loved member of Potter’s Clay Baptist Church in High Point. In addition to his parents Wayne was preceded in death by a brother Waldo Hammonds
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joan Bradley Hammonds of the home and three daughters, Jennifer Jaworski of High Point and husband Jeff of Manteo, NC, Sabrina Smith of Archdale and Spirit Davis of Trinity. He is also survived by grandchildren Christian Mesimer, Katelynn Mesimer, Kara Booth, Olivia DeMoss, Kinglee Sutton, Bralyn Tuttle, and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother Jesse Hammonds and wife Barbara of Thomasville and a sister-in-law Linda Hammonds of Thomasville
A memorial service will be held at Potter’s Clay Baptist Church, 3001 West English Rd, High Point on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 4 pm. The family will greet friends following the service.
