Archdale – Charles Gene Lanford, 85, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in DeKalb County, Georgia on June 30, 1931, a son of the late Charles Walker and Martha Hamby Lanford. A resident of this area for the past thirty-four years, Charles was a veteran of the US Air Force and a graduate of Wake Forest University. He was a retired chemist from Kao Chemicals (formerly High Point Chemicals). Charles was a member of First Baptist Church of Archdale, where he served as a Deacon. He loved serving in his church and spending time with family. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Anne Witcher and a son, Thomas E. Lanford.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Carolyn Catlett Lanford of the residence; four children, John Walker Lanford (Cathy) of Fayetteville, Catherine L. Jones (Bill) of Archdale, JoAnn Lanford of Archdale and Debra L. Nicholson of Trinity; eight grandchildren, John Charles Lanford (Chrystal), Christopher Hawkins (Becky), Cody Lanford, Alyssa Jones, Matthew Charles Witcher, Hannah Nicholson, Chase Lanford and Wit Lanford; and five Great-Grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Charles’ life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 16th, from the graveside, at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Robert Ferguson officiating.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, October 15th, from 6 pm until 8 pm, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
