Larry Thomas Tyson finished his course in this life as a Follower of the Lord Jesus Christ on January 7, 2015 at Pine Ridge Nursing Facility after battling Lou Gehrig Disease (ALS) for ten years.
Larry was born February 23, 1949 to Joe and Annis Smith Tyson in High Point. He graduated from Ledford High School in 1967. He lived in this areal all his life and was employed in the chemical industry working for Lilly Co., Valspar, and AKZO-Nobel in maintenance as a Licensed Electrician.
On July 14, 1973 Larry married Betty Tharp Tyson who survives him. He also has a brother, Joey Tyson of Ramseur; a sister, Ginger Hilton of High Point; and a nephew, David. He was preceded in death by a niece, Stephanie. He is also survived by many uncles, aunts, and cousins in the High Point area and Anson County.
Larry loved and appreciated his family and their support in these last months. Especially, the family wants to thank his cousin Katherine Mosley and Dana Rivenbark for their help as sitters. The family also wants to thank the staff members of Spring Arbor Assisted Living and Pine Ridge Nursing Facility of Thomasville for their care and support of Larry.
Larry honorably served in the North Carolina National Guard for six years. He lived at High Rock Lake and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He was a quiet and humble man who put up a valiant fight against ALS for over ten years. He accepted Jesus Christ as Lord of his life while attending Green Street Baptist Church, High Point and was a member of Southgate Baptist Church, Thomasville.
At Larry’s request, a graveside service will be held at Spring Hill United Methodist Church, West Lexington Ave., High Point, on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at noon with Pastor Chuck Garner officiating. Family visitation will be held in the church sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. before the service.
