Wilma Jean McGill, 76, a thirty-three year resident of Jamestown, NC, formerly of Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, PA, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Her husband of 57 years, James E. McGill, and three sons were by her side.
Mrs. McGill was born October 18, 1935 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of William & Marion Dawson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGill was preceded in death by a sister, Marion (Prysi-Sanders). She is survived by a brother, James Dawson of Pittsburgh.
Wilma graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and was employed by Penn National Insurance and later by the State of Pennsylvania. She was a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer for over 25 years. Wilma cherished her family. She also loved sharing time with friends, traveling, decorating, and crafting.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons: Kenneth (Kathryn) of West Chester, PA, Daniel (Suzanne) of Raleigh, NC, and Timothy (Korina) of Greensboro, NC; nine grandchildren: Erin (DeSandro), Kathleen, Brian, Meredith, Ian, Leigh, Grady John, Riley, and Ryan.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 19th from 6-8 pm at the Cumby Family Funeral Service 1015 Eastchester Drive High Point, NC 27262. There will also be a visitation on Friday, January 20th beginning at 10 am followed by a Mass at 11 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4145 Johnson Street, High Point, NC 27265, with Reverend Vincent Smith, OSFS celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) or Hospice of the Piedmont (www.hospice-careconnection.org).
