Edward Alan Pennell

Edward Alan Pennell of Welcome, age 58, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born February 12, 1963 in Caldwell County to Edward Cloyd and Bonnie Blackburn Pennell.

Alan was a caring husband, father, and “Poppy”, who was cherished and loved by his entire family. Alan never met a stranger, and his faith and love for Christ was evident as he often witnessed to those he encountered about the joys of salvation through Jesus Christ. Alan was the Office Manager at Triad Paper Recycling in High Point, a position he held for 20 years. He loved spending time with his family and friends, hosting family gatherings, working in the yard with his wife Tara, playing tennis with his son Grey, traveling, and watching Westerns. He was also extremely proud to be a Pittsburgh Steelers season ticket holder. Alan was preceded in death by his father, Edward Cloyd Pennell, and brother, Rodney Wayne Pennell.

Alan is survived by his wife, Tara Lax Pennell; son, Edward Grey Pennell and wife Molly of Archdale; mother, Bonnie Blackburn Pennell; siblings, Lisa Pennell and husband Joseph Strickland of Roaring River, Scott Ray Benge and wife Teresa of Asheboro; stepchildren, Steven Gainey and wife Crystal, Myranda Gainey, and Cierra Gainey; grandchildren, Emory Pennell, Khirstyn Gainey, Jeremiya Gainey, Branson Gainey, Tristen Gainey, and Ayydane Gainey; nieces and nephews, Trey Strickland and wife Katie, Lane Strickland and wife Kayla, Avery Friday and husband Aaron, Kesha Hall and husband Nathan, and Justin Cepeda; great nephews and great niece, Hunter Strickland, Savannah Strickland, Asher Strickland, and Silas Strickland.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, June 21, at Oak View Baptist Church at 810 Oakview Rd, High Point, NC 27265, with Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro, NC 27407. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Sunday, June 20, at Cumby Family Funeral Home, 206 Trindale Road, Archdale, NC 27263. Flowers will be accepted.
