Mr. William Allen Tomlinson Jr., 73, died April 4, 2021 at Hospice Home at High Point.
He is survived by his first wife of 40 years, his bride, and the best move he ever made, Judy. Affectionately known to the family as Toppy, he will certainly be remembered by his friends as a man who could tell a great joke. He was a founding member of the grammar police, and was rumored to have reached the end of the internet….twice. Also, he was an inspired DIY repairman, rivalled only by MacGyver in both style and creativity. As a Mensa scholar, he was only known to have been wrong once, and only about having been wrong in the first place. He was conferred the honor of the commission of Kentucky Colonels in 1972, though the deed for which he was recognized is to this day shrouded in mystery. He was a loving father to his son, and namesake, William Allen Tomlinson III, who inherited not only his striking good looks, but also his razor sharp intellect and humility. He will be remembered always as a father, a husband, and a great man who’ll be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife Judy Church Tomlinson, his memory is carried on by a daughter, Jennifer Albrecht; two sons, William Allen Tomlinson III and wife Xylina and Don MacDougal and wife Terri; a sister, Jicki Carter and husband Buzz; a brother, John Barton Gilbert Tomlinson; seven grandchildren, William IV, Xenia, Makenna, Matthew, Clarissa, James, and Annie; and two nieces, Caroline and Jane. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Allen Tomlinson, Sr. and Jane Gilbert Tomlinson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, at High Point Friends Meeting with Terry Venable officiating. Interment will follow at Springfield Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
