ASHEBORO – Alonzo Sammie Gasque, 68, died Monday, January 14, 2019, at his residence.
He was born November 3, 1950, in Conway, South Carolina and was the son of the late Ernest Samuel and Blanch Poston Gasque. He was an expert and well-known mechanic and painter and was owner and operator of his own auto shop. He enjoyed drag racing and was a race car driver.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joni Grindstaff; two brothers, Jerry Gasque and Roscoe Gasque.
Alonzo is survived by his wife of twenty years, Sharon Hughes Gasque; two sons, Ernie Gasque of Conway, SC, and Vernon Grindstaff of Trinity; two grandchildren whom he raised, Haley Grindstaff (Michael Beane) of Welcome and Tyler Scott Grindstaff (Jessica Webster) of Trinity and a third grandchild, Ryan Gasque; three great-grandchildren, Bentley Grindstaff, Audrey Grindstaff, and Ava Grindstaff; and a special niece and nephew, Melinda King (Leon) and Rocky Gasque (Megan), both of Conway, SC.
Graveside service celebrating Alonzo’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
