JAMESTOWN – Arnold Richard Owenby, 81, died Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Hospice Home at High Point.
He was born April 2, 1940 in Bryson City and was the son of Jim and Caroline Grant. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Arnold was a truck driver for many years with Overnight Trucking and later retired as maintenance supervisor with Alcohol and Drug Services in Greensboro. He was a devout man of faith and a member of Landmark Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and working in his yard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Bonnie Owenby and Marie Holden Morgan.
Arnold is survived by his children, Sharon Weaver of Jamestown and Bryan Owenby (Libby) of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Macie Owenby, Colton Weaver (Holly) and Charlie Weaver; step-children, Richard Morgan (Barbara) of Bryson City and Darlene Dillard (Allen) of Pleasant Garden; sisters, Wanda Allred (Leon) of Denton, Gail Deaton and Carole Gellis, both of Asheboro; brother, Colin Lewis (Ruby) of Manchester, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Arnold’s life will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Landmark Baptist Church with Pastor Rodney Hedrick officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 PM Tuesday at the church prior to the service. At other times, the family will gathering at the home of Sharon Weaver, 3907 Kivett Drive, Jamestown.
