Tribute

Barbara Estelle Kinney Hughes, 83, of Colfax left her earthly home to take residence in her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

Barbara was born in Guilford County, February 13, 1935 to the late Paul George Kinney and Willa Mae Daves Kinney.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Stan Kinney and sister, Bobbie K. Lewis.

She lived her life in Guilford County, attending High Point High School.  On October 22, 1954 she married Fred Carlton Hughes.  They had two wonderful children together.  Barbara was always a loving, caring, generous mother who was supportive of her children following their passions toward education and music.  She was obedient to God and lead by her Christian example. Barbara worked at Oakview Elementary School Cafeteria, Visual Products and Alderman Studios.  She was an avid reader, loved to cross-stitch, cook, go to the beach, travel with Fred and tour the western States. 

Those who will cherish Barbara’s memories are: the love of her life for 63 years, Fred Carlton Hughes, her son; Fredrick Michael Hughes and wife, Jennifer, her daughter; Susan Hughes Hayworth and fiancé, Jeff Jones, brothers; Garland Kinney and wife, Georgia, Jim Kinney and wife, Barbra, sister; Linda Kinney Mosley and husband, Phillip, grandchildren; Claire, Gracie and fiancé, Cole Priore and Todd Hughes, Brandon and Blake and wife, Kelly Hayworth, great-grandchildren; Troy, Hadley and two twin boys on the way, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service for Barbara will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Floral Garden Park Mausoleum Chapel in High Point with Rev. Chris Thore and Jerry Farlow officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the following groups for the excellent care and compassion provided: The Outreach Class at First Wesley Church; the Home Instead care providers, Emmanuel, Stephen, Maria, Darla, Pat and Crystal; Dr. Heather Pacholke and nurse, Stephanie; Dr. Bernard Chinnasami and nurse, Erin; Hospice of the Piedmont and the Hayworth Cancer Center at High Point Regional Hospital.
