Bertha Josephine (Butcher) Walker

ARCHDALE – Bertha Josephine Butcher Walker, 98, died Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Westchester Manor.

She was born October 1, 1921, in Surry County and was the daughter of the late John Martin and Lucy Frances Draughn Butcher. She retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Company and was a member of Garrell Street Baptist Church. Bertha was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed quilting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Grady Walker; three sisters and two brothers.

Bertha is survived by her children, John Thomas Walker (Judy) of Newnan, Georgia and Frances Jones Waters of Roanoke, Virginia; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside service celebrating Bertha’s life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Rodney Otwell officiating.

The family will speak with friends at the cemetery following the service.
