Bettie Sain York, 88 of High Point passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021. Born in High Point she is the daughter of the late Cecil and Bernice Sain. She is a graduate of High Point High School (Class of 1951) and High Point College. Bettie spent most of her professional career at WMFR/WMAG Radio. Her true passion was music. She started her 71 year musical career at just 17 years old as the organist at Green Street Baptist Church. She also shared her talents at Emerywood Baptist Church, Archdale United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church through the years. Bettie was serving as the full-time organist at First Baptist Church in High Point until the time of her death.
Bettie was active in many High Point organizations including Parson’s Table, the Salvation Army Ladies’ Auxiliary, Happy Tones and sharing her musical talents by playing the piano each week in the lobby of High Point Regional Hospital. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Worth J. York.
She is survived by her daughter Betsy Hubler and husband Gary, and grandchildren Courtney and Christopher Westcott.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bettie Sain York will be held 10:00 am Saturday, September 25th in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of High Point. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. To honor her and her fight with COVID that took her life, mask will be required at the service. Inurnment services will be private.
