Mr. William (Bill) Gaston Ervin, 80, resident of 5441 Geneva Terrace died November 13th, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Ervin was born November 30th, 1930 in Statesville NC, a son to the late McKinley Gladston and Elizabeth Williams Ervin.  He was a graduate of Brevard College and High Point University and was a U.S. Army veteran.  He taught physical education for one year before going into the insurance business, owning Ervin, Haywood and Rankin Insurance Agency before selling to BB&T in 1995.  He was involved in many charitable organizations including Rotary, Boys and Girls Club (chairman), Salvation Army (chairman), YMCA (chairman), The Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Board (chairman), United Way (campaign chairman) and United Methodist Agency for the Retarded (chairman).  He had a special passion for ARC (locally, state wide and nationally) serving as an officer at each level.  He helped found UMAR and donated the first group home in High Point.  In 2011 he was honored with UMAR’s first ever Legacy Award.    He also served as president of the N.C. Association of Insurance Agents and was on the board of directors for Appalachian’s Walker School of Business, Brevard College (former chairman) and High Point University.  He was active in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church having served as chairman of the Every Member Commitment Campaign and while living in Florida, served on the Finance Committee at Faith United Methodist Church.  In 1996 he was honored as High Point’s Citizen of the Year.  In 1979 he married Alice Barbee Ervin who survives of the residence.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Ervin.
Also surviving are two sons, Billy Ervin of High Point and Derick Kennedy of Myrtle Beach, SC; two brothers, Joe Ervin and wife Rosalyn of Lincolnton NC and Winfred Ervin and wife Virginia of N. Hutchinson Island FL; two granddaughters, Holly and Shelby; three great-granddaughters, Zaylah, Lillianna and Olivia and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Al Ward and Rev. Harold Hendren officiating.  Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm.
