Mr. Bill Ray Gant, 82, resident of High Point, died January 9, 2021 at High Point Medical Center.
He was born October 23, 1938 in Stony Point, North Carolina and had been a resident of this area since 1961. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army paratrooper division. He also was a 33 year veteran of the High Point Police Department and a member of the State of North Carolina Police Association. In 1981, he was awarded the Long Leaf Pine, one of the state’s highest civilian honors.
Surviving is his wife Carolyn King Gant of the residence; two sons, Dale Gant and wife Joan of Charlotte and Dean Gant and fiancee Amy of High Point; a sister, Carol Moates of Pleasant Garden; three grandchildren, Devin, Ridge, and Dawson Gant; and three step grandchildren, Kyle, Cole, and Code Shina.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Pastor Bill Harwell officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Floral Garden Park Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
