Blanchette Lassiter Mitchell, 93, of High Point passed away peacefully into her Savior’s hands on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Westchester Harbour.
Blanchette was born in High Point on July 10, 1926 to the late William H. Lassiter and Maude Geddy Lassiter. She met the love of her life and future husband, Walter J. Mitchell, when she was in first grade. They attended school together through Allen Jay High School and were married on December 24, 1947. Blanchette helped her husband start his septic tank and backhoe business and they raised two children, Sandra and Ray.
A member of Fairfield United Methodist Church, Blanchette was a devoted Christian and gave freely of her time and treasure. She especially enjoyed working with the women of the church to raise funds for those in need. A talented and caring homemaker, she loved cooking, shopping with her brother Bill and sister Sue, and caring for her family and friends. Her two grandsons were her pride and joy and they adored their “Mimi”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Mitchell in 2014 after 67 years of marriage; her daughter, Sandra Mitchell East; and her siblings and their spouses, Lyndon Lassiter and wife Hazel, Ruth McCrae and husband Reid, Louise McBride, Maude Ellis Lassiter, Haywood Lassiter and wife Lois, Bill Lassiter and wife Ruth, Benson Lassiter and wife Annie Lee, and Sue Draughn and husband David. Those who will cherish Blanchette’s memories are her son, Ray Mitchell and wife, Mary of Austin, Texas; grandsons, Timothy Ray Mitchell and Jeffrey North Mitchell of Austin, Texas; and countless nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
A special thanks to those at Westchester Harbour and Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care and support of Blanchette in her final years.
