Tribute

We proudly announce the final sailing of Bobby Amos, ET1-SS, US Navy, Retired.  The departure to his home base was 14-Jul-2021.  He was 88 years old.

Bobby was born in San Bernardino, CA in 1932.  At 17, he joined the US Navy to support the country during the Korean War.  He sailed both above and below the ocean’s surface on such awesome vessels as the monstrous Battleship IOWA, and Fleet Ballistic Missile nuclear submarine Woodrow Wilson.  After a 20-year career in the US Navy, he retired and went on to pursue another 20-year career in the telephone industry, made possible by the electronics training he was given in the US Navy.

Bobby was an avid golfer with his friends at River Landing.  He was a sports coach to very many youths during his life.  He enjoyed teaching skills, sportsmanship and most of all mentoring to all of them.  It was his greatest joy to pass along his enjoyment for baseball, softball, basketball, and football.  He was a certified Virginia High School Football Referee for many years.

Bobby was married to Mary Amos, and they resided at River Landing in Colfax, NC.  He was preceded in death by both parents and all of his siblings.  During his 67-year marriage to Mary they had 4 beautiful children, each have loving families that have made North Carolina their home.  Bobby’s close family included 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Bobby was the purest example of humble beginnings created great things…
