Carl Everett Barker, died January 11, 2021 at the Hospice Home at High Point.  He was born in High Point, NC, the first child of Carl Lee Barker and Mary Lou Whitener Barker, both of whom preceded him in death.  Carl was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Robert Clifford Montgomery, Jr. and nephew, Jerry Allen Montgomery.  He was a lifetime resident of High Point.

Carl graduated from High Point High School in June 1945.  In 1945 - 1946, he was employed by the War Records Administration, first in High Point, then in St. Louis, Missouri.  In 1946 - 1947 , he attended Jones Business College in High Point and was employed by Barker Brothers Hosiery Mill during 1946-1948 as bookkeeper and payroll clerk.  His career with Sears in Greensboro began in September 1948 and was interrupted when he was drafted into the Korean War on September 27, 1950.  Upon completion of his military service in August 1952, he returned to his employment with Sears in Greensboro where he retired June 30, 1990, with over 41 years of service.

His service in the U.S. Army took him to Camp Atterbury, IN; Ft. Riley, KS; and Germany.  While stationed in Germany, he used his leave time to travel extensively throughout Europe, visiting England, France, Holland, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland.

On April 6, 1963, he married Marilyn Blanche Morgan, whose 36-year career was with The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  He and his wife spent their vacations traveling in all 50 states.

Carl was a devoted member of Green Street Baptist Church in High Point where he joined at the age of 10.  In 1944, he began a lifelong hobby of collecting church bulletins.  His collection represents more than 3100 different churches and includes all denominations, all U.S. states and some foreign countries.  His favorite pastime was reading books, magazines, newspapers and church literature.

Carl is survived by his wife, Marilyn Barker; a sister, Wilma Barker Montgomery of Kentucky; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Karlyn Morgan Nance of Thomasville; four nieces, Priscilla Montgomery Odegaard, Stephanie Nance Williams, Kimberly Dawn Nance and Katherine Nance Brown; two nephews, Robert Wayne Montgomery, and David Lee Montgomery.

A graveside private family Celebration of Life Service will be held at Floral Garden Park Cemetery Mausoleum, January 14, at 1:00 pm.  Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.  Memorials may be directed to the charitable organization of the donor's choice.  In view of Covid, it is requested that no food be brought to the family.
