Carlene Bennett Gregory, 91, passed away on May 12th at Pennybyrn Nursing Home in Jamestown, NC.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 16th at 3pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service at 1015 Eastchester Drive in High Point, NC with the Rev Matt McCarthy and Rev Deon Parker officiating (Vertical Church).
Carlene was born in Paragould Greene Co., AR to Raymond Ulysses and Mary Dowdy Bennett on December 3, 1929. The eldest of 8 children born during the Great Depression, she knew hardship but also real joy. She worked in a munitions factory during WWII and during the war years met the love of her life, CPL Thomas Lee Gregory USMC. They were married for 42 years. Carlene and Tommy loved their family and devoted their time to supporting family friends, worked hard, and left a legacy of love and caring. Without a doubt, Carlene spoke the truth, offered wisdom, and lived an authentic life. She often mentioned her coming to know the Lord as a teenager and was thankful for the Grace of God for someone who was imperfect.
Carlene is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lee Gregory, sister Alene Bennett Prince, brothers Harry Lee Bennett and Dallas Gerald Bennett.
Carlene is survived by two daughters, Linda Gregory Gleason (Carl) and Karin Gregory Henderson (Rick), five grandchildren Rick Henderson (Jessica), Kyle Henderson, Kristin Henderson, Greg Gleason (Christy), Philip Gleason (Holly) and three great grandchildren, Cole Gleason, Finley Henderson, and Wyatt Henderson. She is also survived by three sisters, Mavis Raymonda Myers, Martha Sue Gulley and Rebecca Cheryl Gomez and one brother Gary James Bennett.
The family of Carlene wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the many staff and medical professionals for the care she received at Pennybyrn Nursing Home, Jamestown, NC - they loved, accepted and cared for her as the Diva of Pennybyrn. What an amazing team of caregivers — truly they have found their calling in ministering to those who are on their final miles homeward.
