TRINITY – Carrie Lou Anthony Battle, 95, died Tuesday, October 29, 2018, at Hospice Home of Randolph County.
She was born December 11, 1922, in Marietta, Georgia, and was the daughter of the late John and Ophelia Anthony. She retired from Riverside Church in New York City where she served as housekeeping supervisor for many years. Carrie was an active member of Liberty Grove United Methodist Church where she had served on the hospitality committee, treasurer of the building committee and a member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed driving and traveling, cooking, and taking care of children and was a fashion diva known for her matching hats and outfits and her high-heel shoes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Resie Battle; her step-mother, Thelma Anthony; five children, Janice Davis, Edith Battle, John Battle, Harry Lee Davis, and Joe Watson; and a son-in-law, Robert Belo.
Carrie is survived by a daughter, Carolyn B. Belo of Trinity; two sons, Wilbur Battle and wife, Hilda, of Trinity and William Battle and wife, Jackie, of Randallstown, Maryland; eighteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service celebrating Carrie’s life will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, November 2, 2018, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service with the Rev. Sandra McNeil, the Rev. Ronald Hinson, and the Rev. Lee Bynum officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 Friday at the funeral home prior to the service and at other times will be at the home of Wilbur and Hilda Battle.
